PADRES National Spokeswoman Eva Longoria to Accept $245,000 Donation from the New AT&T on Behalf of Young Cancer Patients
New AT&T Promotion Benefits Latino Children and Their Families.
WHAT: PADRES Contra El Cancer (PADRES), a non-profit organization
committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with
cancer and their families, along with its national spokeswoman Eva
Longoria of ABC's hit television series "Desperate Housewives" will
accept a $245,000 check from the new AT&T. The donation is the
result of a six-week sales promotion by the company to increase
awareness of childhood cancer and collect donations from its
customers at select retail stores in the Greater Los Angeles area.
The promotion featured a successful bone marrow drive resulting in
more than 200 new Latino donors being added to the National Bone
Marrow Registry. An increase in Latino donors improves the
possibility of matches for young cancer patients. Cancer strikes
approximately 1,500 children in California annually and nearly 50
percent of them are Latino. Cancer remains the leading cause of
death among children under 15 years old, second only to accidents
in most age groups.
