Broadcast Ad Sales Veteran To Lead Scripps TV Station in Baltimore
CINCINNATI, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Bill Hooper, a veteran broadcast advertising sales executive, has been named vice president and general manager of WMAR-TV in Baltimore, effective immediately.
WMAR, an ABC affiliate, is owned and operated by The E. W. Scripps Company.
Hooper, 45, joined WMAR in 2004 as general sales manager. He succeeds Drew Berry, who is joining the faculty of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism at Hampton University in Virginia.
"Bill has done an excellent job building WMAR's sales organization," said Bill Peterson, senior vice president of the Scripps Television Station Group. "His entire broadcasting career has been in Baltimore. Bill knows Baltimore, and Baltimore knows Bill which, we believe will go along way in helping us build the WMAR franchise in the community."
Hooper began his career in sales in 1983 at radio station WMAR-FM. Since then he has worked for a number of radio stations in the Baltimore market. Immediately before joining Scripps and WMAR-TV, Hooper was senior vice president and director of sales for Infinity Broadcasting in Baltimore.
Hooper has a bachelor's degree from Randolph Macon College.
He serves on the corporate advisory board for the John Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore.
