Plastic surgeon calls controversy over t.v. host's weight a travesty

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the numerous inquiries for comments by Jay Calvert, MD, FACS, the internationally renowned plastic surgeon who appears regularly on the "Tyra Banks" syndicated television show, Dr. Calvert issued the following statement after stating that Ms. Banks is not now nor has she ever been a patient of his.

"As a physician who performs body contouring procedures on models and actors in the entertainment industry and people in all walks of life, in my expert opinion, Tyra Banks is a naturally beautiful woman with an impressive figure. The current obsession on waif-thin fashion models is just plain wrong.

"I see Tyra on stage all the time," Dr. Calvert continues, "and she embodies a vision of health and vitality. Her comfort with her own body is admirable and her ability to maintain such a beautiful look in a natural way is almost overwhelming. She is a true role model for all women.
