WHAT: Award-winning songwriter Sir Elton John will officially become a
Disney Legend during a ceremony at the headquarters of The Walt
Disney Company on Monday, October 9 at 4:00 p.m. John will be one
of 12 individuals honored for their service to the media company,
including ABC News anchor Peter Jennings and Mickey Mouse Club
alumni Kevin Corcoran, Tommy Kirk, David Stollery and Tim
Considine.
Disney President and CEO Robert A. Iger will be joined by Walt
Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook, Disney Executive Vice President
and Imagineering Ambassador Marty Sklar, and Disney Director
Emeritus Roy Disney in presenting the awards.
The Disney Legends ceremony has been conducted annually since 1987
with 191 Legends having been inducted to date. Each Legend
receives a bronze sculpture featuring Mickey Mouse's hand holding a
magic wand and has a plaque with his or her name and handprints
permanently installed in the Legends Plaza in front of Disney's
headquarters building.

MAN! I just left work on the Disney lot while this was going on. I'm a major major Elton John fan and had the chance opportunity to wander over there from the Wells building and see the Legends presentation. Unfortunately, once you're stuck behind the massive glom of paparazzi, it's not easy to see much, and I wasn't seeing or hearing enough to stick around and wait for Elton. Had I known who to to chat up, I probably could have scored my way into the reception afterwards, but I only found out at the last minute, and dammit, I'm TIRED after work! ;) Thanks for the info!
