HomeMovieDepot.com Launches New Online Archive to Help Families Preserve and Share Cherished Home Movies
Archive currently includes more than 8,000 home movies dating back to 1930
ASHLAND, Mo., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Home Movie Depot today announced the official launch of its Online Archive, http://www.homemoviedepot.com/home_movie_depot_archive.php, which allows users to convert old family movies into DVDs and archive their nostalgic footage at the site.
Most family movies have been recorded on what are essentially inaccessible film technologies that make it difficult for families to both view and share some of their favorite memories, said Gerald McKinney, president of Home Movie Depot.
HomeMovieDepot.com allows users to convert family movies recorded on 8mm, super 8, 16mm, camcorder and VHS film into DVDs that they can play at home. The site also allows users to convert 35 mm slides into high-resolution digital images that can be placed on a CD or a DVD and viewed as digital slide slows.
The site's users can also voluntarily submit their newly digitized family movies to Home Movie Depot's online archive for posterity. The archive currently includes more than 8,000 home movies dating back to 1930.
"We have the distinct privilege of preserving a piece of history with every film that we transfer," McKinney said. "We think it is important to be able to share these films with the rest of world."
Home Movie Depot's archive of family films can serve as a dynamic resource for various cultural historians to refer to during their research efforts. For instance, visitors to the site can search the film archive by keyword and view movies in streaming video.
The archive also includes a comment field, which can facilitate conversation about each movie among family, friends, and researches - all over the world.
McKinney added that the site's staff of engineers and programmers has developed a proprietary film-conversion process that uses the latest technologies to produce high-quality digital films.
Home Movie Depot charges $.10 per foot for film transfers, $14.95 per tape for video transfers and $.40 per slide for slide transfers. Most of the site's film-conversion orders are processed in 72 hours.
