Hollywood and Sports Highlights the Miraculous Comeback of Texas Legend Beverly Kearney

This year Kearney Named a 2006 Sports Legend; Rang Ceremonial Bell at the American Stock Exchange; Is Showcased on HBO's 'Real Sports' and Options Her Life Story to Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Like a scene out of a Hollywood movie, 2006 has become a year of triumph for Beverly "Bev" Kearney, the head of track and field for the University of Texas, who just a few short years ago did not know if she would ever stand again, let alone walk. But the legend of her miraculous comeback is not only the story of victory over physical devastation, immobility and paralysis; it is also a tale of an athlete's journey from personal limitations to spiritual transformation which is now being slated for the big movie screen.

After coming off a successful sports season, Bev was highlighted on HBO's "Real Sports," rang the ceremonial bell at the American Stock Exchange and was recently honored as a 2006 Sports Legend, where she was joined by fellow honorees: Lance Armstrong, Patrick Ewing, Emmitt Smith, Wade Boggs, Dean Smith and Tony Hawk. Past honorees include Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Mario Andretti, Joe DiMaggio and Jack Nicklaus. The event benefited the Buoniconti Fund, which along with The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, are close to Bev's heart. She is on a constant campaign to aid the health and well- being of people, who like her, are living with paralysis, spinal cord injuries, and mobility impairment.

With insiders saying that Bev's story is fertile ground for Academy Award territory, her next stop is Hollywood, as the rights to her life story were recently optioned by the newly expanded Tri Destined Studios / Tri Destined Films. Major interest is swirling about the story which chronicles Bev's humble beginnings as a girl who lost her mother during high school and was left with six siblings trying to pick up the pieces; her victory over sexism to reach the top of her field; and finally the challenge of a lifetime -- the battle over her own physical debilitations as she coached her team to the Collegiate and U.S. National (Pre-Olympic) championships. All of this was done from her hospital bed, while -- against doctors' prognosis -- she taught herself how to walk again, after a horrendous accident.
