St. Mary's Academy and the Colorado Symphony Announce Unique Partnership - Photo Op

WHAT: St. Mary's Academy and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra have
created an innovative educational partnership to introduce more
children and their families to music and the symphony. Colorado
Symphony Orchestra Music Director Jeffrey Kahane will conduct an
intimate conversation and performance for St. Mary's Academy
Lower School students. Following his performance, Doug Adams,
Colorado Symphony Orchestra President & CEO, and Judith Baenen,
President of St. Mary's Academy, will officially announce this
unique two-year collaboration.

This comprehensive two-year music education initiative will
include: interactive performances at the school for students and
parents, instrument of the month visits conducted by CSO
musicians, exclusive dress rehearsal parties, Maestro visits to
the school, a four-week artist residency program in which
original work may be sung by the St. Mary's Academy choir or
performed by the orchestra, a "Master Mentors" program in which
CSO musicians will provide coaching for students participating in
SMA's orchestra, and family concerts in Boettcher Concert Hall
with special ticket pricing for St. Mary's Academy students,
teachers and administrative staff. This is the first time a
collaboration of this size and magnitude has been developed
between the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and an individual school.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 24, 2006
1:30-2:30 p.m. -- Conductor and pianist Jeffrey Kahane will
perform for the SMA Lower School students and converse with them
about music.

2:30 p.m. -- St. Mary's Academy President Judith Baenen and
Colorado Symphony Orchestra President & CEO Doug Adams will
announce this unique educational partnership.

WHERE: St. Mary's Academy, 4545 S. University Blvd. The event will take
place in the Forum, the performing arts area in the High School
building.

WHY: Study after study proves both qualitatively and quantitatively
that exposure to music impacts how young people learn to think
and it has a direct correlation to their intellectual
development. The arts are integral to educating the whole child.
This comprehensive two-year music initiative is a model that may
be replicated in the future by other schools in the Denver metro
area.

"This Academy-wide program celebrates the joys of music and
highlights the importance of music as a basis of education," said
Judith Baenen, president of St. Mary's Academy.
