"Meaningful support," according to Mr. Beaty, "includes three full years of tuition and books, plus two 9-week summer internships at cable television systems in South Carolina."

Mr. Beaty said the four new SCCTA Foundation Scholarships have been awarded to students at two South Carolina Research Universities, including South Carolina State University, Orangeburg; and Clemson University.

Sean Sims, from Columbia, a sophomore majoring in Computer Science and Le Tamra Dixon, from Timmonsville, a sophomore majoring in Industrial Engineering, are the newly appointed "Cable Television Scholars" at South Carolina State.

Whitney Chipley, from Florence, a sophomore majoring in Communication Studies and Scott Sampson, from Aiken, a sophomore also majoring in Communication Studies, are the newly appointed "Cable Television Scholars" at Clemson.

The selection process and monitoring of each students academic progress is conducted by the administrations of each university, according to Mr. Beaty. SCCTA Foundation Staff will administer the paid summer internship programs which will provide a real-world work experience for the students.

"It's important to note that each university, and the SCCTA Foundation, are equally committed to the success of this scholarship program, and the students involved," Mr. Beaty said.

The South Carolina Cable Television Association is a professional trade group representing member cable television operating companies, including Time Warner Cable, Charter Communications, and Adelphia, who serve some 1.1 million customers in 441 communities in South Carolina.

The South Carolina Cable Television Foundation is funded by member companies of the SCCTA. Since 1997, the Foundation has committed over $500,000 for the express purpose of providing scholarship funds to South Carolina Research colleges and universities, benefiting students from the State who might not otherwise have the opportunity to advance their career goals in the communications field.
