Video Access Alliance Commends Energy and Commerce Committee for Voting for Video Choice Legislation
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Julia Johnson issued the following statement today on behalf of the Video Access Alliance in response to media queries regarding the organization's position on Wednesday's news regarding the House Energy and Commerce Committee's mark-up of the Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement Act of 2006, authored by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton, R-Texas, and U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill.
"We applaud the fine work of the Committee on video choice legislation as well as the overall goals of the COPE Act. This legislation will bring great benefits to consumers through more choices, better technology infrastructure and reduced rates -- an average of 15 percent savings, according to the GAO.
"But the members of the Video Access Alliance are further encouraged because video choice will empower entrepreneurs and independent talent trying to bring more choices in programming and increased access to their local neighborhoods that reflect today's diverse programming needs. All Americans should support these important reforms as a way to bring opportunity to underrepresented groups and to strengthen our economy through innovative new content and networks."
The Video Access Alliance is a not-for-profit organization designed to serve as an advocacy and advisory group for independent, emerging and minority networks, video programmers, entertainers and other industry participants focused on policies that encourage rapid and ubiquitous deployment and utilization of new and innovative video distribution platforms.
