Scientific Atlanta at NCTA: Convergence of Next-Generation Technologies Driving the Connected Life

-- Show demonstrations highlight how cable operators can provide seamless consumer access to video, voice and data content throughout the home, and beyond --

ATLANTA, April 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NCTA/April 9-11, 2006, Georgia World Congress Center, Booth #2251 -- The digital universe is expanding, and in today's "Connected Life," consumers expect entertainment, information and communication when they want it, how they want it, and even where they want it.

At The 2006 National Show, Scientific Atlanta (NYSE:SFA), a Cisco company, will showcase how its progressive technology will enable cable operators to support converged video, voice and data ("triple-play") services for a seamless consumer experience. Scientific Atlanta will highlight upcoming opportunities for cable providers, from managing set-top digital video recorder (DVR) settings via a mobile phone or laptop, to streaming stored music, photos, videos and games from a personal computer (PC) to a DVR set-top for television listening, viewing and playing. Additionally, show- goers will see Scientific Atlanta's latest DVR set-top with built-in digital video disc (DVD) recorder/player, Multi-Room(TM) DVR set-top, Next Generation Network Architecture Solutions and high-speed data, voice and wireless gateways, just to name a few.

Booth Demonstrations Include:

- The Connected Home - Innovative concepts for video, voice, data and
wireless services converged for a seamless consumer experience.

- Streaming Content, Plus Storage Devices - In this concept
demonstration, consumers will be able to stream content via
wireless gateway from their home PC or networked storage device to
their Scientific Atlanta DVR set-top with DVD to play on their
television (TV) and home entertainment center.

- Internet Set-top DVR Scheduling - Consumers will be able to
schedule DVR set-top recordings from their PC in this concept
demonstration.

- Multi-Room(TM) Set-Top DVR - With Scientific Atlanta's Multi-Room
DVR set-top, consumers can seamlessly access and view programs
stored on their DVR set-top, in multiple rooms of the home, giving
cable operators a new tier of DVR service.

- Wireless Services of the Future - Innovative concepts demonstrating
easy consumer access to multiple forms of content, on multiple
devices, inside and outside the home.

- DVR Set-Top with built-in DVD Recorder/Player, Model MCP-100(TM) -
Cable operators can launch the next level of DVR service with great in
home features and an exciting new mobility option. Boasting a dual
tuner high-definition (HD)-DVR, this advanced DVR set-top burns
programs stored on the hard drive onto a DVD, allowing consumers to
archive their favorite shows and/or watch some of their favorite
programs when they're away from home - extending the cable operator's
brand beyond the home. Winner of the "Best of Innovations" award at
the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year, the MCP-100 is the first
to integrate the control of third-party media in a single device,
launching a new wave of advanced media center capabilities for
consumers.

- Direct To Disc - Scientific Atlanta is taking DVR set-top with DVD
development a step further with Direct To Disc. This concept
demonstration will show how cable operators could one day enable
consumers to purchase content (videos, soundtracks, games, etc.)
through an on-demand portal and record the content to disc through the
DVR set-top's built-in DVD recorder for later playback. When available,
this technology will assist cable operators in satisfying the "on
demand" and "mobility" impulses of their customers, and content owners
will enjoy a new distribution avenue for popular and niche content.

- Next Generation Network Architecture - NGNA initiatives give cable
operators a rock-solid foundation for applications on the digital
horizon. Demonstrations include: Switched Digital Video, Downloadable
Conditional Access in the CableNET booth, and next generation set-tops
including DSG and OpenCable(TM) Applications Platform (OCAP)-ready,
Multi-Stream CableCARD-enabled, and MPEG-4 Part 10/H.264 models.

- OCAP Solutions for the Evolving Network - With an eye on the future and
support of interoperability of OCAP applications across cable networks,
Scientific Atlanta is committed to the development of next generation
platforms. Our solutions are designed to provide new revenue-generating
opportunities for operators as they expand their services, while
simplifying the launch of services.

- High-Speed Data, Voice and Wireless Gateways - Scientific Atlanta's
comprehensive cable modem portfolio gives cable operators the power to
bring bundled services to customers for "one-stop shopping" along with
enhanced applications for differentiated future voice services like
CallerID and voice mail on TV.

- Bandwidth Enhancing Technologies - Enabling operators to add more HD
and on-demand channels to the program lineup.

- Real-Time Network Monitoring and Status - Scientific Atlanta's
Pointer(TM) software enables cable operators to detect and locate high
fiber coax (HFC) network outage conditions in a Scientific Atlanta
supplied broadband delivery system with no load on the network.

- Advanced Video Compression Technologies - Enable customers to
experience on-demand content with blockbuster-quality video, even at
bandwidth-saving low bit rates.

- The Latest Set-Top DVR and HD-DVR Innovations for Europe
