Most Americans Gave to Hurricane Relief and Their Other Charities as Well, the Conference Board Reports
A nationwide survey by The Conference Board shows most Americans who gave money to help victims of the Katrina and Rita hurricanes also contributed to all of their normal charities as well.
Nine out ten Americans who gave funds to hurricane relief efforts also gave to their customary charities.
The survey covers five-thousand households, the same sample used in The Conference Board's monthly Consumer Confidence Survey. As of this February, contributions to hurricane relief amounted to an estimated three-point-six billion dollars, according to the Center of Philanthropy.
More than three-fourths of the families surveyed made charitable contributions last year, with 63 percent of this group earmarking funds for hurricane relief efforts. More than one-third of the surveyed households gave more than 100 dollars to charitable causes, 36 percent gave between 26 dollars and 99 dollars and just under one- third contributed under 25 dollars.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to Open Roy Orbison Exhibit
Roy Orbison was one of the true pioneers of rock and roll and one of the all-time greatest singers to ever record rock, pop or country music. In celebration of his legacy, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum today will be opening an exhibit that highlights different aspects of his career and personal life. Orbison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
The exhibit coincides with the release of Legacy Records Roy Orbison Reissue Project. The first Legacy release will be Black and White Night, the 1987 star-studded concert originally aired as an H-B-O-Cinemax special, and the long-awaited The Essential Roy Orbison, the first-ever "best of" collection spanning Orbison's entire career. Rap Listeners Prone to Alcohol, Drugs, Violence; Study Raises Questions About Alcohol Industry Marketing Through Hip Hop
A new study say young people who listen to rap and hip hop music are more likely to have problems with alcohol, drugs and violence than listeners of other types of music. The study's author says the link to these problems raises serious questions about the alcohol industry's use of rap and hip hop to market products.
A survey of more than one-thousand community college students found that rap music was consistently associated with alcohol use, potential alcohol use disorder, illicit drug use and aggressive behavior. Alcohol and illicit drug use were also associated with listening to techno and reggae. The results were not affected by the respondents' gender or ethnicity.
The study was funded by Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation and published in the May issue of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol.
