Cooper Lighting Donates Lighting Fixtures to ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

Cooper Lighting Donates Lighting Fixtures to ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Cooper Lighting recently donated 155 HALO Recessed Downlights, including cans and trims, to ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to accommodate a home in Sunrise, KY for the episode which aired April 16.

The Hassall family has been unable to make home improvements because of multiple health problems. Brian Hassall, a police officer that was wounded on the job, works nights due to light sensitive migraines. Because of their severity, Brian sleeps in the windowless basement. Brian's wife, Michelle, is a high school music teacher that has a weak immune system from battling lymphoma cancer, often preventing her from going into the basement. Sam, their adopted son from China, is three years old and was born with a cleft palette.

The cast and crew of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," demolished the ranch home while the family was on a weeklong vacation in Walt Disney World. Friends and family provided an extra hand to the contractors. The home was rebuilt using various products, including Cooper Lighting's HALO Recessed Downlights.

"We are proud to work again with 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' to help another family's dream come true," said vice president of marketing for Cooper Lighting, Tim O'Brien. Previously, Cooper Lighting donated 150 HALO All-Pro 6" recessed downlight lighting fixtures for the White family in March.

Cooper Lighting's product was obtained through King Lighting (rep. of Cooper Lighting) and distributed to Cincinnati builders John Henry Homes, through Cooper Lighting's local distributor, Richards Electric of Cincinnati. The contractor who completed the installation was Quinn Electric of Erlanger, KY.

"Due to torrential rains in the area, we were unable to start until Sunday afternoon and we worked through the night until early Monday morning," said Terry Quinn of Quinn Electric. "Despite our late start, everyone worked well with each other and stayed focused to accomplish the common goal of building this well-deserving family a new home." Quinn Electric had 20 volunteers work on the Hassall home.

Dan Piepmeier of Richards Electric was impressed with the manufacturers and contractors he had the opportunity to work with. "It gives you a spring in your step to know that you work with the right people in this business. This is much more than corporations coming together, it's people helping people."

Just before building started, the architects decided to go with a lamp (light bulb) that provides more light output. Cooper Lighting shipped the new cans and coordinating trims within 48 hours to meet the new requirements of the Hassall home, still making it under the deadline.

"It's amazing how easily and efficiently the project was completed when we work together for such a great cause," said Tom Schaefer from King Lighting. "Cooper Lighting, as well as other manufacturers and contractors from the outside scope, really came together to make this work on such short notice. We appreciate what this family has gone through and are proud to have helped them."

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman. The show airs Sundays (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.
