More Than a Dozen Top Jewish Musical Acts to Perform at First-Ever New Orleans International Jewish Music Festival
Concerts Set for April 1 at The Howlin' Wolf, April 2 at Tulane University's McAlister Hall
NEW ORLEANS, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Many of the world's top Jewish music artists will be participating this Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and 2, in the first-ever New Orleans International Jewish Music Festival.
The New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars will be performing along with Theresa Andersson (New Orleans), Fran Avni (Oakland), Stacy Beyer (Nashville), Blue Fringe (New York), Neshama Carlebach (New York), Efim Chorny (Ukraine), Sam Glaser (Los Angeles), Yom Hadash (Warwick, Rhode Island), RebbeSoul (Oakland), Gershon Veroba (New York) and Voices for Israel (New York). Comedian Joel Chasnoff (New York) will host Sunday's show.
Several thousand Jewish-Americans and music enthusiasts will be participating in the event. The goal is to raise money for Jewish education and cultural enrichment activities in the greater New Orleans area.
The Hiddur Mitzvah Project from The Gary Rosenthal Collection is sponsoring the festival, in conjunction with Moment Magazine, the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans, Whitney National Bank, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, OffBeat Magazine and New Orleans Hillel.
Saturday, April 1 - Show begins at 8 p.m. - Doors open at 7 p.m.
The Howlin' Wolf (907 South Peters Street). This venue will be smoke-free.
Doors open at 7 p.m. with an All-Star Havdallah Jam at 7:45 p.m.
Sunday, April 2 - Show begins at 12 p.m. - Doors open at 12 p.m.
McAlister Hall (McAlister Drive) Tulane University
The Saturday, April 1 show is $15 and the Sunday, April 2 show is $10. A $5 discount is available for both shows with valid student ID. A $250 patron ticket is available. Tickets are available through TicketWeb.com or by calling (866) 666-8932.
The festival will bring together Jewish communities and music enthusiasts to celebrate Jewish culture and rebuild New Orleans' Jewish community in the wake of Hurricane Katrina's devastation. Prior to the disaster, the New Orleans Jewish community comprised 9,500 people, of which 75 percent suffered severe damage to their homes. Today, nearly 70 percent of the Jewish families have returned.
