Flight 93 National Memorial to Receive 10 Percent of Opening-Weekend Gross From Universal Pictures' United 93
SOMERSET, Pa., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- It was announced today by the Families of Flight 93, that the Flight 93 National Memorial will receive 10 percent of all box-office revenue collected from the first three days of the North American release of Universal Pictures' United 93, which opens in theaters on Friday, April 28, 2006.
"While the film serves as a cinematic memorial, this contribution will help build a permanent physical memorial to those courageous men and women who lost their lives facing unthinkable adversity," commented Adam Fogelson, President of Marketing for Universal Pictures. "We have been humbled by our involvement with the families of those on board, and Universal is proud to help make their memorial a reality."
"The Families of Flight 93 are extremely grateful to Universal Pictures for their generous contribution on behalf of our loved ones lost on 9/11," said Gordon Felt, Families of Flight 93, brother of Edward P. Felt, one of the heroes of Flight 93. "Their efforts to help permanently memorialize the bravery of the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93 who chose to fight back in the face of violent adversity are remarkable."
In February 2006, the Families of Flight 93 announced the appointment of Outback Steakhouse Board Chairman Chris T. Sullivan as National Chairman of the Flight 93 National Memorial $30 million fundraising campaign.
"As the leader of the Flight 93 National Memorial fundraising campaign, I am thrilled to learn of this generous contribution," said Mr. Sullivan. "United 93 will help us raise tremendous awareness of the extraordinary acts of courage and sacrifice of the heroes of Flight 93, hopefully resulting in worldwide support of the Memorial."

About the Flight 93 National Memorial
On September 24, 2002, Congress passed the Flight 93 National Memorial Act. The Act created a new national park unit to commemorate the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who, on September 11, 2001, courageously gave their lives thereby thwarting a planned attack on our Nation's capital. The Memorial is near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001.
The Flight 93 National Memorial project made history as the first national park designed entirely through an open, public design competition. The year- long, international competition received more than 1,000 submissions created by professionals and members of the general public.
A diverse jury comprised of family members, community representatives and design professionals chose the winning design because it most completely exemplifies the mission of the memorial. The final design selection for the Flight 93 National Memorial, announced September 7, 2005, was created by Paul Murdoch Architects of Los Angeles. The design can be viewed online at http://www.flight93memorialproject.org/.
When completed, the Flight 93 National Memorial will encompass 2,200 acres of land, of which almost 1,300 acres will be dedicated to the design features, and 900 acres will be protected through partnerships and scenic easements. The National Park Service is the steward of the Flight 93 National Memorial.
