'American Ballerina'(TM) Sues Billy Joel's Hit Show 'MOVIN' OUT'
PRESS CONFERENCE Date: March 21, 2006 Place: Biltmore Hotel, Majorca Room Time: 10:30 A.M.
MIAMI, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Alice Alyse, world class ballerina, actress and star of Billy Joel's smash Broadway hit show MOVIN' OUT has filed complaints in Miami circuit court and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC"). The EEOC has already begun an investigation. Ms. Alyse will attend a press conference Tuesday morning and address the media herself.
Alice has devoted her life to ballet and dance. In 2003, she accepted a position as part of the "First Cast" in the First National Tour and was promised the lead role of Judy. Alice was beaming with pride to be a part of this hit show which is choreographed by the legendary Twyla Tharp.
But not soon thereafter, Alice witnessed dancer actors and actresses being forced to perform injured, threatened, harassed, sexually abused and fired, among many other unethical employment practices. The MOVIN' OUT cast was treated as if they had little to no rights in an unhealthy environment governed by intimidation and fear.
Sadly, after Alice was injured, she returned to the show only then to be sexually harassed and discriminated against by her production stage manager, who assaulted her and made lewd sexual remarks about the size of her breasts in front of her cast mates, boasted about his sexual prowess and, when she had no choice but to complain, defendants retaliated against her. While this was reported to management and then the show's owners, nothing was done about it. Instead, as a condition for continued employment, management and owners demanded that Alice agree to release them from all liability. When Alice refused, she was terminated.
"My client never wished MOVIN' OUT anything but success," states her attorney Larry Klayman, a high profile Miami lawyer who is also the founder of Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based public interest watchdog that, under his leadership, furthered ethics. "After Alice tried in vain to negotiate a resolution, she was cast aside. We now have no choice but to hold those responsible to the letter of the law, as Alice has been severely harmed. Alice is a true heroine who stands up not only for herself, but the rights of all those at MOVIN' OUT who have been mistreated."
