In creating the music, Lumb journeyed out into the California wilderness, capturing native sounds using a portable high-fidelity recording system. Focusing on the natural transitions birds and insects make at sunset, each recording faithfully explores rhythms of the forest, desert, and beach during the twilight hours. In the studio, James wrote three beautiful musical pieces, each evolving tonally and rhythmically over the course of an hour. When combined the music and environments lock together, forming vivid musical landscapes. For example, the pairing of "Forest" environment with the "Dappled Sunlight" music results in a musical movement called "Sunlight Through the Forest Trees." The end result of the pairings is 15 hours of beautiful ambience that stands up to repeated listening.
