PA Governor Rendell, Washington Governor Gregoire Place Wager on Super Bowl XL
The clash of the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers next week in Super Bowl Forty promises to be a classic title tilt. And, Governors from each state are wagering culinary favorites on the outcome.
Governor Edward G. Rendell, always superstitious, said he is repeating the wager he made last week with Colorado and will bet one box of Pittsburgh's Original Hot Dog Shop hot dogs and a case of Heinz condiments, including ketchup, mustard and relish. However, because it's the Big Game, Governor Rendell is upping the ante by adding enough Primanti Brothers Sandwiches and plenty of Eat n' Park Gold and Black Smiley cookies to feed a crew. All of the food will be donated to a Seattle homeless shelter if Seattle is victorious.
Governor Christine Gregoire has countered with a Washington classic: a bushel of their finest apples, plus Ivar's Clam Chowder and plenty of "Applets and Cotlets," all to be donated to a Pittsburgh homeless shelter if the Steelers win.

The Super Bowl: America's Newest Food Holiday
The Super Bowl has been America's biggest sporting event for decades. It's also one of the nation's biggest food events. Regardless of the two teams playing, family and friends get together for several hours of serious fun and eating. Supermarkets confirm the Super Bowl's impact on Americans' food-buying habits. In fact, the Super Bowl sales period compares favorably with holidays long associated with big meals. At Food Lion, one of the nation's larger supermarket chains, customer demand for deli party trays during the Super Bowl doubles that of regular sales weeks. Super Bowl week at Food Lion trails only Christmas and New Year in party tray sales.

Will Punxsutawney Phil See His Shadow?
For one day every winter the eyes of the nation turn their attention to a small rodent in a small town called Punxsutawney. It is there, early on a cold February morning, that Phil the groundhog makes the most heralded weather forecast of the year. The question on everyone's mind -- will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow? Now, for the first time, Sportsbook.com is offering Americans the chance to wager on the outcome.
As the legend goes, if Phil sees his shadow when he emerges from his hole at 7:25 a-m on February 2nd, there will be six more weeks of winter. If he does not see his shadow there will be an early spring. History suggests that Americans should bundle up for an extended winter. Since 1887, Phil's debut as the world's most famous meteorologist, the groundhog has seen his shadow an incredible ninety-five times out of one hundred eighteen, including six years running. Because of the overwhelming statistics, Sportsbook.com is favoring another 'No shadow" outcome this year, with odds set at one-to-three.

JWT Worldwide Releases 'The Life of the Dog in the Year of the Dog'
Chinese New Year rings in 2006 as the Year of the Dog. And just what is the life of dogs these days? In America this year, nine percent of the seventy-three million domestic dogs will celebrate their own custom birthday parties, while three percent will enjoy health insurance. For Chinese canines, life's another story. Ten million dogs will suffer the fate of another tradition -- slaughtering. Their meat will be used for family and restaurant hot pot dinners, and in some cases, their fur will serve as trim on key chains and hair accessories.
