OMG Multi-Media Signs The Outdoor Channel's(TM) 2005 'Win Your Own Fishing Show' Contest Winner as Regular Host of 'America's Outdoor Journal'
TEMECULA, Calif., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Outdoor Channel (TOC) today announced that Rachel Phelps, winner of the Channel's 2005 "Win Your Own Fishing Show" Contest, has been hired by OMG Multi-Media to become a regular host of "America's Outdoor Journal" (AOJ), the popular outdoor variety series shot in HD and airing exclusively on TOC and the all-new Outdoor Channel 2 HD(SM).
Ms. Phelps will join AOJ's expert team of co-hosts, handpicked by the show's producers, to present viewers with some of the most dynamic and entertaining perspectives on hunting, fishing, and other exciting outdoor activities.
"It's really an honor, and I'm extremely excited to be given this opportunity by OMG," remarked Rachel. "I'm very committed to putting forth a strong image in representing female outdoor enthusiasts, and hosting AOJ is a terrific forum for getting this message out." A native of Monmouth, Oregon, Ms. Phelps first grabbed the attention of AOJ's producers as a participant in TOC's 2005 "Win Your Own Fishing Show" Contest.
OMG Multi-Media President and AOJ Executive Producer Russ Cameron said, "While it was likely Rachel's smooth delivery, on-camera ease and first-hand knowledge of her local Oregon waterways that propelled her into receiving the most votes and ultimately winning TOC's contest, it was her own one-time fishing show, which aired in summer 2005, that impressed our producers the most.
"We plan to use Ms. Phelps extensively for new hunting and fishing segments of the show," Cameron said. "Having had the chance to meet and work with Rachel while co-producing her special this past summer, I knew she would be a great fit for 'America's Outdoor Journal.' Rachel possesses great personality and appeal, and is also extremely passionate about the sport. It's rare to find that combination of qualities in any host, and we expect to see great things from Rachel; our sponsors are already embracing her."
Rachel's success marks a notable trend among participants in TOC's "Win Your Own Fishing Show" Contest, with Phelps having become the second winner in recent years to go on to a regular hosting assignment within the outdoor community, as well as a new career in broadcasting. The 2nd Annual WYOFS Contest winner Gary Wert was able to parlay the attention he received into an ongoing position as host of a local radio program focusing on hunting and fishing. Those looking for lightning to strike three times can visit the Outdoor Channel Website at www.outdoorchannel.com, view the original auditions of this year's five finalists, and log a vote for their favorite. Voting for this year's contest will remain open until February 7th, 2006; the winner of the 2006 Win Your Own Fishing Show Contest will be announced live on The Outdoor Channel on February 18, 2006.
