Hundreds of Country Music Industry and Radio Professionals Unite to Honor the Life-Saving Mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R)
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Representatives from 225 radio stations will join some of country music's brightest stars Jan. 12-15 for the annual St. Jude Radio Training Seminar in Memphis. The seminar will unite nearly 900 attendees from across the country, all of whom are dedicated to the life-saving mission of St. Jude through the radio fund-raising programs Country Cares for St. Jude Kids(R) and Radio Cares for St. Jude Kids(TM).
In addition to the radio representatives, Carrie Underwood, Julie Roberts, Jamey Johnson, Trent Willmon, Josh Turner and Randy Owen of the GRAMMY(R) Award-winning group ALABAMA are among the artists scheduled to visit St. Jude, the world's premier center dedicated to the research and treatment of catastrophic childhood diseases. During the seminar, the artists, industry representatives and radio station personnel will tour the hospital, meet patients and attend sessions about planning successful radiothons. This year's event is sponsored in part by Back Yard Burger Catering and Central Imaging and Printing.
"Everyone here -- the employees, the patients, their families -- looks forward to the seminar," said ALSAC/St. Jude Radio and Entertainment Marketing Director Teri Watson. "This is the one time of the year when we can embrace our radio and music friends to thank them and remind them of why we still need their support."
St. Jude has been actively involved in radiothon fund-raising for more than 30 years. In fact, hundreds of radio stations across the country have helped raise more than $250 million for the life-saving work of St. Jude, and the list of partner stations continues to expand. St. Jude radiothons typically last two days and are highlighted by patient stories, story song vignettes, celebrity involvement and radio station promotions.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fund-raising organization.
