CMP Entertainment Media Teams with Grass Valley for HD Educational Event During the Sundance and Slamdance Film Festivals

NEW YORK, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- CMP Entertainment Media, publisher of Videography, Digital Cinematography and the Park City Digital Report, has joined with technology sponsor Grass Valley, a business within Thomson, to offer visitors to the Sundance and Slamdance film festivals a specialized event that focuses on high-definition tools for the production and postproduction of independent films.

The event, called HD House, is located at 804 Main St. in Park City and will include panel discussions with professionals in the filmmaking and postproduction communities, technology demonstrations and filmmaker Q&As. The HD House will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Friday, January 20, to Tuesday, January 24. Events at the HD House are free and open to the public.

Topics to be considered in sessions and panel discussions include digital acquisition for independent filmmakers, the digital intermediate process, and high-definition acquisition and post. Some of the questions to be tackled include: Tapeless, filmless production is a reality, but what does that mean for your production? How can you use this technology to tell better stories? How will it change the way you work? Can you really afford it? What are the benefits and hidden costs? Sessions at the HD House are produced by Videography's Cristina Clapp and Jon Silberg.

Working sessions at the HD House will include:
* Digital Cinematography: The New Tools
* Digital Intermediate: A Filmmaker's New Palette
* The Digital Intermediate Pipeline
* Case Studies with Filmmakers
* DI for the Independent Filmmaker

Technology presentations will spotlight Grass Valley's Infinity(TM) Series (multi-format SD/HD camcorder and Digital Media Recorder and player, and REV PRO media) and the Viper FilmStream(TM) digital cinematography camera.

Technology presentations and industry panel discussions will focus on the Viper FilmStream(TM) digital cinematography camera and how this unique camera can improve a production's workflow and bring the most value to the set.

With three 9.2 million pixel Frame Transfer CCDs capturing 1920x1080 resolution, the Viper FilmStream camera system delivers an RGB 4:4:4 10-bit log output uncompromised by electronic camera signal processing.

The Grass Valley Infinity SD/HD camcorder records to four types of removable media (REV Pro, IEEE 1394, USB and Compact Flash) and an internal buffer. It offers two different codecs (DV and JPEG 2000) built-in, and, with no sub-sampling, the camera produces full 1920x1080 HD images via 10-bit, 4:2:2 processing with JPEG 2000 advanced compression.

Technicolor will participate at the HD House, providing a number of speakers to appear on panels that address topics important to its customers, including HD dailies and digital previews, Technicolor's digital pipeline (from production through post) and two panels on digital intermediates that address Technicolor's "indie" model as well as Technicolor Digital Intermediates' more high-end approach.

"We're thrilled to be able to offer this educational program to Park City's festival attendees," says Adam Goldstein, CMP Entertainment Media's publishing director. "Between the Park City Digital Report, our festival publication on filmmaking technology and the HD House, CMP Entertainment Media will be providing independent filmmakers with a full range of resources."

"Grass Valley has always placed a high priority on customer education, and we are pleased to be supporting such a valuable resource as the HD House," states Marc Valentin, president of Grass Valley, a business within Thomson. "Once professionals get their hands on the Grass Valley Viper camera and Infinity camcorder, they will recognize the power and value of such unique technology and how it will cost-effectively help them achieve their goals."
