Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Dan Marino to Participate in Target Cook-Off
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- What do you get when you mix creative culinary competition a la Iron Chef with comedy improv? The folks at Target offer the answer in an exciting, interactive "battle" that pits two chefs against one another in friendly rivalry at the Target Cook-Off in the South Beach Wine & Food Festival Grand Tasting Village. South Florida's own Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and former Miami Dolphin Quarterback, Dan Marino, will face-off against Food Network's Tyler Florence on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at 3:15 p.m. Although known for his 17-year run as the Miami Dolphins Quarterback, Dan Marino is no stranger to the kitchen as owner of five restaurants in Florida. With dozens of NFL records and numerous accolades under his belt, Dan Marino may add one more: the first Target Cook-Off Champion!
A secret "bag" of ingredients featuring Target-Archer Farms products will be revealed on the Target Cook-Off stage and the competing chefs will duke it out to prepare the best dish with the ingredients and tools provided. Adding to the fun, Aaron Sanchez (Paladar, New York) will moderate audience heckling and cheering and serve up lots of humor in this fun competition. And once the heated activity has ended and the final dishes are prepared, it's up to the audience to choose the winner.
Also appearing in Target Cook-Offs are Johnny Vinczencz (Johnny V's, Fort Lauderdale) against Govind Armstrong (Table 8, Los Angeles) on Saturday, February 25 and Norman Van Aken (Norman's, Coral Gables, Orlando, Los Angeles) against Dean Fearing (Mansion on Turtle Creek, Dallas) on Sunday, February 26.
Presented by Food & Wine magazine, the Fifth Annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival brings together some of the planet's greatest chefs, winemakers, spirits producers and culinary personalities to entertain patrons in high style and to educate palates with cooking demos and wine seminars for three delicious days in February (Friday-Sunday, February 24-26, 2006).
Hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida and Florida International University (FIU), the festival benefits the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Teaching Restaurant and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center, both located at FIU.
