The national TV show, which boasts 5 million viewers, pulled together consumer volunteers who "put pricey and value-priced makeup to the test." Professional makeup artists applied department store products to one side of the volunteers' faces and drugstore products to the other in a blind product test. The volunteers went about their normal daily activities and at the end of their day, 6-8 hours later, were asked to compare the makeup on each side of their face.

Good Morning America discovered that the average American woman spends about $600 a year on makeup. The women were equally split over their preferences for department store and drugstore eye shadow and lipsticks, EXCEPT when it came to mascara where the women clearly voted JANE's value- priced Mascara $4.00 was superior to the department store product priced at $24.00.
