Mainstream Data MDI Technologies Group Signs Reuters to Provide Support for New File-Based Video Delivery System
SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Mainstream Data announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Reuters Television to manage the North American rollout of Reuters World News Express (WNE) service.
WNE is Reuters new file-based video news delivery system that is starting to replace linear video for edited news stories. WNE uses Mainstream's range of satellite and IP network support services to help provide timely and efficient distribution of news video, scripts, and story information in an integrated digital file, thus eliminating the need for fixed news video transmission times and local recording and handling of the video.
Reuters chose Mainstream to assist in the WNE implementation because of its extensive experience overseeing large scale and complex content distribution network projects.
The Reuters-MDI Technologies agreement is the first major contract for Mainstream Data's newly-formed services group. MDI Technologies was created in September to provide customers with project management, phone and field support services, and installation and maintenance of satellite equipment, PCs, multimedia servers, and video displays. The group was formed to meet a growing demand from digital media and enterprise communication customers for outsourced end-to-end content distribution network services. Under the scope of the agreement, Mainstream provides turnkey service for the Reuters WNE network including equipment testing and staging, logistics tracking and network monitoring, a web-accessible database for order entry and inventory, and first and second-line technical support for the WNE infrastructure in the US.
Tony Donovan, Managing Director of Reuters Television, said, "Mainstream has provided top-quality customer service to Reuters for a number of years. We were looking for a service organization for World News Express in the US that could get the job done quickly, effectively, and efficiently. Mainstream has helped us achieve these goals. WNE, as a global distribution of video news to close to 500 broadcasters, will transform the international news syndication landscape and we need experienced partners with the expertise to help us roll out the infrastructure quickly and efficiently."
"We are thrilled to extend the services we provide Reuters to include turnkey network fulfillment," said Scott E. Calder, President and CEO of Mainstream Data. "Outsourcing network and technology deployments allows our customers in the media and digital signage industries to focus on their core business while eliminating the complexities and distractions that typically plague new system rollouts. We see MDI Technologies as a logical extension of our 'no compromise' digital networks."
Mainstream has provided communications services to Reuters since 1987. In addition to providing MDI technologies services, Mainstream also distributes Reuters' text newswires, photographs, and news graphics to leading newspapers and web sites across North America.
