Scientific-Atlanta DVB-T Playout Solution Selected by Bayerischer Rundfunk for Analog-to-Digital Migration
KORTRIJK, Belgium and ATLANTA, August 5/PRNewswire/ -- Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR - Bavarian Broadcast Corporation), one of the
largest public broadcasters in Germany, has chosen Scientific-Atlanta Europe
NV to supply the DVB-T playout center for its shift from analog to digital
program distribution. The new digital playout center will deliver three
multiplexes of digital programming to viewers across Bavaria.
In extensive video quality testing, the Scientific-Atlanta encoding,
decoding and statistical multiplexing solution provided the performance and
advanced features Bayerischer Rundfunk needed for this important
analog-to-digital transition. The video quality and system stability
supported by the new Scientific-Atlanta playout center are critical
capabilities for Bayerischer Rundfunk's successful shift to digital video
program distribution.
The Scientific-Atlanta playout center system includes field-proven,
reliable MPEG-2 encoders (Model D9030(TM)) working with Scientific-Atlanta's
Regulus(TM) Statistical Multiplex Controller, Stellar XT(TM) decoders and
multiplexers (Model D9608(TM)) to provide the bandwidth-saving digital
encoding/decoding. BR is also using the flexible ROSA(TM) Network Management
System (NMS) and ROSA Element Manager (EM) System to manage, monitor and
control the delivery of services across the network.
"Our system approach to broadcast solutions looks beyond individual
components and equipment to focus on the both the current and future
capabilities a network needs to be able to support," said George Stromeyer,
vice president and managing director at Scientific-Atlanta Europe NV. "Our
combination of excellent compression performance and quality, a comprehensive
system design and our extensive experience in deploying DVB-T networks offers
solutions that help maximize the operator's ability to offer reliable,
high-quality video service to their viewers."

studio features for contribution solutions, and, together with the Regulus
stat mux controller and Stellar XT decoder, provides a reliable
encoding/decoding foundation for an end-to-end contribution system supporting
very high picture quality to and from studios.
