Italian Film Festival Announces 29th Season Program Including Special Screening at the Newly Restored Lark Theater

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Lido Cantarutti, director of the Italian Film Festival of Marin County, announced today the films for the seven-week fall festival. The program features recent films exploring the dramatic and comedic range of Italy's contemporary filmmakers. Cantarutti said, "We're excited to feature two films by Italy's most acclaimed directors, Pupi Avati and Ettore Scola. And those three outrageously funny comedians Aldo, Giovanni, and Giacomo are back in their latest smash hit. We also have a special Sunday screening at the beautifully restored Lark Theater in Larkspur. Historic movie houses are an important amenity for our communities and too many are being closed. And as the venue for a beautiful Italian feature film, it can't help but evoke memories of 'Cinema Paradiso,' one of everybody's favorite Italian films!"

The films selected for the festival are:

October 1 Incantato (Il cuore altrove), 2003, romance/drama/comedy, directed by Pupi Avati

October 8 Forever (Per sempre), 2003, drama/love story, directed by Alessandro di Robilant and starring Giancarlo Giannini

October 16 Kiss Me First (Prima dammi un bacio), 2003, romantic drama, directed by Ambrogio Lo Guidice, at the Lark Theater

October 22 The Destination (La destinazione), 2003, drama, directed by Piero Sanna

October 29 Do You Know Claudia? (Tu la conosci Claudia?), 2004, comedy, directed by Massimo Venier and starring Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo

November 5 People of Rome (Gente di Roma), 2003, documentary/comedy, directed by Ettore Scola

November 12, Vanilla and Chocolate (Vaniglia e cioccolato), 2003, romantic drama, directed by Ciro Ippolito

The films are shown two times in the Marin Center Showcase Theatre in San Rafael, CA and at the Lark Theater in Larkspur, CA. Single tickets are $10.75 each. This is the twenty-ninth year the Italian Film Festival has been produced by Lido Cantarutti. The Festival displays modern and classic Italian films in a festive atmosphere. A Marin County newspaper describes the Festival as "joining an Italian family for a night."

Lido Cantarutti teaches Italian at the College of Marin in Kentfield, CA, where he was voted the Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Member for 1998-99. He has been honored by the Italian government on numerous occasions, most recently in 2001 with the conferral of knighthood and the title of Cavaliere Ufficiale nell'Ordine Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana.
