Who: The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Inc. (PanCAN), established
in 1999, is the first national patient advocacy organization for
the pancreatic cancer community. PanCAN works to focus national
attention on the need to find a cure for pancreatic cancer by
providing public and professional education embracing the urgent
need for more research, effective treatments, prevention programs
and early detection methods.
Why: Pancreatic cancer has a 99% mortality rate -- the highest of any
cancer. Pancreatic cancer spreads rapidly and is seldom detected
in its early stages. It is the fourth leading cause of cancer
deaths, yet it receives very little funding for research.
When: Julie Fleshman, President and CEO of PanCAN will be available for
media interviews during the week of August 1st.
