Washington Area Frisbee Club Invites ESPN to Catch the Spirit of DC Ultimate

- Nation's Largest Disc Sports Club Welcomes SportsCenter to DC -

WASHINGTON, July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the 2,300 members of the Washington Area Frisbee Club (WAFC -- http://www.wafc.org/) invite ESPN's SportsCenter to spend an evening watching us play the sport we love, Ultimate Frisbee, on their upcoming visit to Washington, DC. WAFC has been sponsoring co-ed Ultimate and other flying disc sports in the metropolitan DC area since its inception in 1979. More than 1,200 men and women ages 15 to 50 are participating in this year's Summer League.

WAFC's invitation comes in response to ESPN's recent decision to include DC in its "50 States in 50 Days" summer broadcast tour.

"We applaud ESPN for their wise decision to broadcast from DC and look forward to providing them with exciting footage for use on SportsCenter," said WAFC President Tim Herbert. "Ultimate Frisbee is one of the largest and longest-running participant sports in the District. Mayor Anthony Williams recognizes our sport as a key DC summertime fixture, and we are grateful for his strong leadership and insistence that the District be included in the '50 States' tour. We look forward to working with his office to ensure that ESPN's visit will highlight the best that DC has to offer."

Ultimate Frisbee is a fast-moving field sport that requires exceptional stamina and precision throwing. Invented in 1973 at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, the sport is now played in every major city and on college campuses around the world.
