Rentrak Reports One Billion DVD Units Rented in U.S. Home Video Rental Market During First Half 2005

Video Rental Market Down Slightly at Mid-Year, yet Sustained by Previously- Viewed Sales

PORTLAND, Ore., July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ:RENT), the originator of real-time home video tracking and analysis by Home Video Essentials(TM), announced today research that reveals consumers have rented more than one billion DVD units during the first 26 weeks of the year (weeks ending 1/9 - 7/3/05).

According to Rentrak's Home Video Essentials(TM) 2005 Mid-Year Report on the U.S. Home Video Rental Market, consumers increased their DVD rental activity by (+) 17.7% from the 856.5 million DVD titles rented during the first half of 2004.

Spending on a la carte and subscription rentals from the brick-and-mortar and online channels reached $3.99 billion year-to-date, down (-) 2.3% from the $4.08 billion consumers spent during the first-half of 2004. With the addition of sales revenue from previously-viewed (PV) videos, the market remained flat year-over-year.
