The Weather Channel Premieres New Tsunami Survivors Episodes Wednesday

WHAT: The Weather Channel, as part of its acclaimed Storm Stories
series, debuts two new episodes detailing survivors' accounts of
the deadly tsunami that devastated coastal communities along the
Indian Ocean last December.

In a story that shocked and saddened the world, hundreds of
thousands of unsuspecting residents and visitors were caught
unaware when a powerful earthquake deep in the ocean floor set
off a tsunami racing towards the coastlines of southern Asia.

Despite the tremendous loss of life and destruction of property,
there were a number of incredible accounts of survival. On
Wednesday, The Weather Channel presents several of these tales in
Tsunami Survivors, two new episodes of Storm Stories.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 22

8:30 & 11:30 pm ET - Sri Lanka Tsunami

PROGRAM Thailand Tsunami: A family is separated by a powerful wall of
DETAILS: water -- the father clings to a buoy, the mother to a Styrofoam
cooler, the 3-year-old son to the limbs of a tree. Hear their
amazing story of rescue and survival against all odds.
Meanwhile, twenty miles away, an elephant guide leading a group
of tourists notices that the animals seem excited, but it's not
until they start charging through the thick forest. Looking back
towards the coast, he sees the wall of water and hears the cries
in the distance, and soon realizes that the elephants are saving
the lives of the entire party.

Sri Lanka Tsunami: Rousted out of bed by his wife's cry of "the
sea is coming," the minister looks out and sees a 30-foot wall of
water racing towards the beach. He is only 200 yards off of the
beach in the orphanage he built, and now is faced with how to
save his wife and the 28 children who live with them.
Surprisingly, the best option seems to be loading everyone into a
small boat and piloting out into the lagoon.
