Umpqua Bank Launches Industry's First Music Program

Bank Offers New In-Store Experience: Customers Create CDs of Local Music

PORTLAND, Ore., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Umpqua Bank, the Pacific Northwest's largest community bank, is launching a new program called Discover Local Music, which connects Portland customers with the eclectic sounds of the city's vibrant music scene. Starting today, customers who open a new account at the Umpqua Bank Pearl Store have the opportunity to browse Umpqua's Discover Local Music Catalog and create a free custom CD of 10 songs by the region's top artists. The bank plans to roll out the program to the general public at select stores in Oregon, Washington and California and online at www.umpquamusic.com in the fall.

"We are always looking for new ways to provide a unique, meaningful experience to our customers and reach out to the local community," says Ray Davis, Umpqua Bank CEO. "The Discover Local Music program is a way for Umpqua Bank to showcase and support local artists while interacting with customers and the community on an entirely new level."

Umpqua is working with Rumblefish, Inc., a Portland-based Music Identity(SM) and licensing company, to develop the Discover Local Music program. Rumblefish reviewed the music of hundreds of local artists to find such gems as Morgan Grace, Kenney Polson, Stephanie Schneiderman, Rye Hollow, The Volumes, Sam Martin, LIV, Easterly, Nicole Campbell and Wow and Flutter, among the many others featured in the Discover Local Music Catalog.

Discover Local Music Creates New Customer Experience

The Discover Local Music program is another example of how Umpqua is redefining the way banks interact with consumers. The program is designed to be a fun, interactive experience for customers and is available exclusively at Umpqua's Pearl Store. A visual in-store display features a listening station where customers will find a sampling of the variety of music available in Umpqua's Discover Local Music Catalog.

How Discover Local Music Works

The program is free to new or existing customers with any account opening. Or, Umpqua customers can come into the Pearl store to create a CD anytime for only $8. The process is easy:

-- Use the Umpqua Bank computer cafe at the Pearl District store and go to the new music-on-demand website, www.umpquamusic.com. Enter the password received with a new account opening or purchase.

-- Preview approximately 80 available tracks and create your own custom mix of local music.

-- Hit "submit" and receive a customized CD within three business days.

In addition to helping Portlanders discover local music, a portion of Umpqua's Discover Local Music proceeds will benefit Ethos Music Center, a multicultural nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting music and music- based education for Oregon's youth.

Local Curators Share Favorite Music Picks

For the musically-challenged, or those just curious about what some of Portland's local music aficionados might select for their own CD, Umpqua has partnered with a dozen locals who have distinct relationships to music to share their song picks with the public. Curator mixes and commentary are designed to help users navigate through new music as they develop a custom compilation that speaks to their own style. The first four Discover Local Music curators include:

-- Erin Boburg, Assistant Curator of Performing Arts, PICA
-- Dennis Constantine, Program Director, KINK FM
-- Mark Lindsay, Frontman, Paul Revere & The Raiders
-- Becca Smith, owner of retail boutique "cheeky b" in the Pearl
