C.H.E.F.(R) Receives Grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to Train Nonprofits in Business Planning

SEATTLE, June 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C.H.E.F.(R)), an entrepreneurial nonprofit organization that developed the most widely-used prevention curricula in the United States, announced that it has received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to launch an innovative training program for a diverse group of its grantees on how to build organizational capacity and long-term sustainability through business planning.

Funded through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and developed by C.H.E.F., this pilot program will span a period of three years and encompass training, strategy development, technical assistance, implementation and evaluation to help the health and human service nonprofit organizations acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to build and improve their business capacity. The premise of this program is that nonprofits will have a greater chance of reaching their mission and financial bottom lines if they have a strong business plan and diverse revenue base.

According to Larry Clark, President and CEO of C.H.E.F., "We are thrilled to have been selected by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to receive this grant, and are appreciative of their commitment and dedication to helping other nonprofit organizations learn the skills required for capacity-building and long-term sustainability. As a health and prevention nonprofit organization that has operated for the past 30 years with a successful social enterprise model, we are uniquely qualified to assist other nonprofit organizations to strengthen their management and business capabilities, retain their mission focus, and become more financially self-sufficient."

According to Jane Isaacs Lowe, PhD, Senior Program Officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, "In collaboration with C.H.E.F., the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will focus on the importance of helping our grantee organizations not only build their programs and organizations with the grant funds that we provide, but also help to ensure that the proper social enterprise discipline, tools, and skills are in place to allow those same programs and organizations to grow and thrive in the long-term, even after the grant funds have run out."
