Singer Debbie Friedman Honors Jewish Teachers

Singer Debbie Friedman Honors Jewish Teachers

SEATTLE, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle announced today that renowned Jewish singer-composer Debbie Friedman will come to Seattle over Memorial Day weekend on Sunday May 29th, 2005. Friedman will perform for the Jewish Education Council's (JEC) event "Celebrate Teachers." This concert will honor Seattle Jewish community teachers, including Carol Starin, Jewish Education Council Director, upon her retirement.

"To have Debbie Friedman honor Carol is a real gift," says Rivy Poupko Kletenik, the Jewish Education Council's director of education services, "since they're both educators and have been colleagues for the past 15 years; I anticipate a sell-out crowd."

Debbie Friedman has been rejuvenating Jewish music for the past 25 years. Her music is fully integrated into synagogue liturgy; many congregations consider it "traditional." Carol Starin, as the vice president for education at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, has led the Jewish Education Council for the past 14 years and is much beloved by the Seattle Jewish community. The event co-chairs are Maria Erlitz and Tina Novick. Adults and children are invited to enjoy the Debbie Friedman experience, celebrate our teachers and honor Carol Starin.
