'Conversations' Connects Major Contemporary Artists With Museum Curators for Unique Group Exhibition
Set to Open February 20th
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Conversations, an exhibition produced by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, pairs Museum scientists with contemporary Los Angeles-area artists to take a fresh look at objects from the Museum's rich collections. This unique exhibition opens to the public on Sunday, February 20. Contributing artists include:
* Kim Abeles, whose interdisciplinary, multimedia-rich work explores the
urban environment.
* Lita Albuquerque, whose internationally-renowned work brings the
realities of vast time and space to a human scale via ephemeral and
permanent art works executed in the natural landscape and in public
sites.
* Tony Berlant, whose colorful large-scale metal collages grace the
walls of the San Francisco and Washington, D.C. international
airports, and have been exhibited at the Whitney, MoMA, and LACMA.
* Paul McCarthy, whose work encompasses a broad scope of mediums
including performance art, videos, installations, sculpture and
drawings.
* Ed Moses, an abstract artist known for his inventive paint application
and diverse body of predominantly abstract and non-objective art.
* John Valadez, a realist painter and muralist who takes as his subject
the urban landscape and people of Los Angeles.
Additionally, Self-Help Graphics & Art, will publish a suite of silk screens by five of the exhibition artists that will complement the exhibit. The special edition prints will be on display and available for purchase exclusively through the Museum.
