ARRIS, Xtend Networks Achieve Full DOCSIS(R) 2.0 Operation Over HFC Extended Spectrum Network

ARRIS, Xtend Networks Achieve Full DOCSIS(R) 2.0 Operation Over HFC Extended Spectrum Network

ATLANTA and SUWANEE, Ga., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xtend Networks(TM), a Vyyo(R) (NASDAQ:VYYO) company providing up to 3Ghz of bandwidth over hybrid-fiber coax (HFC) plant for the cable TV industry, and ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) today announced the ability to offer dedicated high-bandwidth spectrum to commercial customers using standard DOCSIS(R) products.

In the tests conducted at ARRIS' Suwanee laboratories, engineers used off-the-shelf Xtend and ARRIS DOCSIS(R) products under a normal testing environment. Reliable operation and high performance were achieved at 256 QAM modulation downstream and 64 QAM SCDMA modulation upstream. These tests illustrate cable operators' ability to deliver a dedicated high-speed data service to commercial customers utilizing existing HFC plant and standard off-the-shelf DOCSIS products. The tests were conducted using an ARRIS C3(TM) CMTS and Touchstone(TM) CM450 cable modem, in conjunction with Xtend Networks' XHUB node product, its XFR trunk amplifier, its XTB CPE device and passive elements.

"As bandwidth needs increase and competitors increase fiber builds, cable system operators are asking vendors to maximize the installed HFC infrastructure," said Wade Carter, ARRIS Director of Engineering. "By working with Xtend, we have an opportunity to create an end-to-end solution that enables operators to deliver unprecedented dedicated high-speed data services to their marketplace."

"Commercial customers are eager to explore alternatives to incumbent telecom providers for the delivery of high bandwidth services," said Brent Levetan, Vice President, Business Development for Xtend Networks. "Our work with ARRIS will enable both of our companies to take leading roles in the creation of the infrastructure capacity that the industry needs to take market leadership in those new market areas."

Xtend's products are based on the ability of advanced application technology and Block Division Multiplexing to increase the available spectrum of the existing cable TV network while providing high-speed symmetrical services to subscribers. Xtend technology is compatible with the existing head-end and CPE devices, including DOCSIS(R), analog and digital TV transmission, and telephony.

Safe Harbor Statement

Statements made in this press release relating to the future, including those related to the potential for Xtend's systems to enable (1) cable operators to deliver a dedicated high-speed data service to commercial customers using existing HFC plan and standard off-the-shelf DOCSIS(R) products; and (2) Xtend to take a leading role in the creation of infrastructure capacity, are forward-looking statements within the meaning of the "safe harbor" provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Because these forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties, there are important factors that could cause our actual results to differ materially from those in the forward-looking statements. These factors include, without limitation, the current limited visibility available in the telecommunications and broadband access equipment markets; whether Xtend will be able to move from the development stage to deployment and establish commercial relationships with the cable system operators; whether the cable industry will be willing and able to substantially increase the available bandwidth on their networks and do so using Xtend's alternative technology solution; whether the results of ARRIS' testing can be duplicated and/or replicated in a commercial environment; whether Xtend is able to maintain its relationship with ARRIS; and other risks set forth in Vyyo's annual report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2003, its quarterly report on Form 10-Q for the three months ended September 30, 2004, and in other periodic reports filed by Vyyo with the Securities and Exchange Commission from time to time. Vyyo assumes no duty to update these statements.
