Alabama Power Selects AMRON's M5(TM) Advanced Metering Platform for Deployment

HARTSVILLE, S.C., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AMRON Technologies, Inc. announced today that Alabama Power, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Company, has selected AMRON's M5(TM) advanced metering platform for deployment to 600 of its load survey customers in Alabama Power's service territory. The M5 platform is a fully integrated advanced metering platform incorporating underglass hardware, a flexible communications network, AMRON's secure Meter Management Data Center (MMDC) and Advanced Metering Portal (AMP).

The M5 platform's hardware components include a communications interface board, a power supply board, internal 3dB gain underglass antenna, and a PCMCIA wireless WAN modem. Operating in real "real-time," the M5 platform will collect data from remote meters at scheduled meter reading intervals, transporting the data via SouthernLINC's wireless network (the wireless communications provider wholly-owned by Southern Company) to AMRON's secure MMDC where AMRON hosts its AMP. Each meter reading takes approximately five seconds to complete. The AMP functions as a robust web-based application that collects and converts meter profiles for easy viewing and alerts.
