Women Order Revenge, Horror and Drama for Christmas Day

Left it to the last minute to shop for Christmas presents? The latest
poll from handbag.com asked its readers which films top their wish list and
revealed that over a third of women (37%) want to watch the ultimate
revenge film Kill Bill when curling up on the sofa with a hot toddy this
Christmas.



A word of warning for those buying DVD's for the women in their lives,
the handbag Christmas film poll revealed that women prefer a good
action-packed thriller or revenge movie over romance or weepy tear-jerkers...
So if you're looking to fill a stocking with a DVD, here's your essential
guide to what women really want!



Revenge



Topping the revenge category, Kill Bill volumes I and II, revealed that
women love nothing more than a kick-ass, self-sufficient heroine who takes no
prisoners. Revenge with a female twist was order of the day with one fifth of
women polled (21%) voting First Wives Club as their favourite film, where
sisters sure are doing it for themselves! The teenage cult classic Heathers
with a young Winona Ryder as the heroine came in third with 9% of the vote.



Scary Movie



The handbag poll revealed that psychological fear is what really
has women cowering behind the pillow this Christmas. It's no surprise that
Silence Of The Lambs (12%), with another strong female lead, topped the poll
for best horror film, followed by The Shining (10%) and all time
spine-chiller The Exorcist (9%), leaving the bloodfest films like The Texas
Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween trailing in their wake.



The Crying Game



If you think the woman in your life is a fan of a weepy movie then the
tear-jerking classic Ghost had the most handbag readers reaching for the
tissue box with over a quarter of the vote (29%). Other winners in this
category included:



- Schindlers List (21%)
- Philadelphia (12%)
- Childhood classic Bambi (11%)
- The Pianist (7%)


Knight in shining armour



Orlando Bloom, who shot to fame in Lord of the Rings and swashbuckled his
way to a place in women's hearts with The Pirates Of The Caribbean, was voted
the top 'romantic hero' by a quarter of women (24%) who would certainly swoon
to find him in their Christmas Stocking! Other winners in the 'romantic hero'
category included:



- Richard Gere in An Officer And A Gentlemen 17% and Tom Cruise
in Top Gun 13% proving there still is nothing like a man in a uniform!



- Russell Crowe, rough and ready in The Gladiator 9%



- Heath Ledger as the knight in shining armour in A Knights Tale 8%



Chick-Flicks



If you're organising a girls' night in over the festive season,
everyone's favourite singleton Bridget Jones can be relied on to provide a
fabulous evening and won the vote for best chick-flick (42%). Other winning
movies in this category included:



- 80s classics we all know the words to, Dirty Dancing 22% and
Grease 9%



- The spectacular modern musical Moulin Rouge with 7%



- The empowering Thelma & Louise (4%) which also introduced the
world to Brad Pitt!



Fantasy Land



When asked which was their favourite fantasy film the response
was clear, The Lord Of The Rings - The Return Of the King (20%) could be the
ultimate escape from the Queen's speech or a family board game this
Christmas! Other winners in this category also included:



- Everyone's favourite child wizard Harry Potter and The Philosopher's
Stone 17%



- Animated film Toy Story that adults will love just as much as the kids
this Christmas 13%



- The futuristic, surprise blockbuster The Matrix 11%



- Proving that you don't need all the latest special effects is
the quirky romance Amelie 8%
