PMI's Flagship Credential Chosen As One of 2005's `10 Hottest Certifications'
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading not-for-profit advocacy association for the project management profession, was recently notified that its flagship Project Management Professional (PMP(R)) certification has been named as one of CertCities.com's "10 Hottest Certifications for 2005" for information technology professionals who plan to pursue certification during the next 12 months. CertCities.com, published by 101 communications, LLC, is an online-only magazine for IT professionals holding or seeking certification.
The PMP credential, which was launched in 1984, is widely recognized as the credential of choice across a vast array of industries and organizations. Eligibility for the PMP certification requires that professionals must first meet specific education and experience criteria and agree to adhere to a professional code of conduct. The key benefits derived from the certification include providing a framework for standardized project management requirements, expediting professional advancement and creating growth opportunities, and increasing professional and personal recognition.
Employers have increasingly come to value the PMP certification for their professional workforce, as evidenced by the growth in the number of employees seeking and receiving the credential. At year-end 2003, there were nearly 76,500 PMPs worldwide. PMI expects to close out 2004 with approximately 100,000 professionals credentialed with the PMP certification, which represents an annual increase of nearly 31%.
Gregory Balestrero, PMI's Chief Executive Officer, remarked, "We're gratified that, once again, PMI's Project Management Professional certification has been recognized as one of the most sought after credentials in the IT sector. Information technology historically is an industry where project management has been embraced as an organizational competency integral to executing strategy through consistent completion of projects on time and under budget. This recognition is yet another testament to the value of project management as a unique strategic competency in an increasingly competitive global economy."
